Weekly Reflection - Fifth week

The fifth week of my teaching practice at Government HSS Anchalummood was marked by meaningful classroom activities and fresh beginnings. I was able to finish the remaining activities of Little Things Matter by Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam and also begin teaching the poem Hope is the Thing with Feathers by Emily Dickinson.

On Monday, August 11th, I focused on the pending activities of Little Things Matter. On Tuesday, August 12th, I handled the third set of activities. The students first prepared sentences beginning with question words and auxiliary verbs, followed by framing WH-questions for the underlined portions of given sentences. They participated actively throughout the session. My class was observed by Anamika mam the same day.
On Wednesday, August 13th, I wrapped up the final two activities from the prose chapter, which included question tags and greetings. The greetings activity, in particular, created a lively atmosphere, as students enjoyed practicing real-life communication skills in an engaging manner.
On Thursday, August 14th, I introduced the poem Hope is the Thing with Feathers. Using ICT aids, I explained the first two stanzas, drawing attention to the image of hope as a bird that sings ceaselessly.Riza's class was observed by Anamika Ma’am.

Finally, on Saturday, August 16th, I completed the poem by covering the remaining stanzas. I emphasized the idea of hope being most powerful during hardships while asking for nothing in return. The students responded meaningfully, sharing thoughtful insights.

Overall, this week proved to be impactful and enriching. Managing prose activities alongside the introduction of poetry gave me an opportunity to experiment with both traditional and ICT-supported methods. These experiences helped me see how student engagement can be sustained and how my own teaching abilities are steadily evolving with every passing day.
